Hemp is one of the most nutritious superfoods in the world. It boasts the highest known levels of edestin, (a highly digestible protein), among plants, making it a superior source of plant protein. Hemp seed has double the amount of protein found in chia seeds and 50% more than in almonds. Even more importantly, it contains all the essential amino acids our bodies need to promote healthy living!
Dehulled hemp seeds, or hemp hearts, are a great source of omega fatty acids with a ratio of 1:3 omega 3 to omega 6. They also contain fibre and minerals including iron, magnesium, copper, and zinc. They are; vegan, paleo, keto, gluten-free, dairy-free and allergen-free.
Hemp hearts have a nutty flavour profile very similar to a pine nut, and can be:
- eaten by themselves as a snack
- added to smoothies
- sprinkled onto salads, desserts, yoghurt, avocados, peanut butter, or eggs
- toasted for extra nuttiness
- baked into muffins, slices, breads, cakes,
- made into raw treats with other nuts and fruit
- ground into flour
- processed into butter
- added to granola, muesli or porridge
