What is Sumac Salt?

Our citrusy, bright Sumac Salt seasoning starts with a pure NZ Sea Salt harvested from the pristine waters of the Marlborough Sounds. The Sea Salt is certified by BioGro NZ as suitable for Organic input. We then add delicious ground sumac, the tangy red powder from the fruit of the sumac shrub, most often used in classic Middle Eastern seasonings.

Our Sumac Salt comes in a high quality grinder with an adjustable ceramic grinding mechanism for long life.

Ground Sumac is mostly used as a souring agent in Middle Eastern, mostly Lebanese, cuisine, with its roots dating back to ancient Greek and Roman times where it was used as a wool dye or for tanning leather. It was later used in medieval times as a treatment for dozens of ailments. Check out more here: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/sumac-benefits-uses-and-forms

Sumac Salt is quite versatile and can be used similarly to regular salt. Here are some ideas:

Sprinkle Sumac Sea Salt Blend on fish, chicken or salads (try it on a simple cucumber salad – delicious)

Season marinades, salad dressings, soups, hummus

Use as a rub for meats prior to grilling or a slow BBQ cook

Use anywhere you might squeeze fresh lemon or lime juice and sprinkle salt
